A nurturing foster care environment can help neglected children make gains that bring them on par with other youth, pediatric researchers reported. The study of Romanian orphans found those placed in foster care had rapid increases in height and weight, and after one year almost all were within normal ranges, while the children who remained in institutions continued to lag in both measurements.
