Study shows genetic link between low birth weight and diabetes

A team of international researchers identified two genetic variants associated with low birth weight, and they also found that one of the variants seems to be responsible for the development of Type 2 diabetes during adulthood. "It is now important for us to establish how much of the association is due to our genes and how much is due to the environment, because this will inform how we target efforts to prevent the disease," one of the researchers said.
