The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is poised to prosecute its first insider-trading case involving credit default swaps. The trial could expand the SEC's power to oversee the CDS market. "It's a very interesting and important case because it really covers the whole issue of the scope of the SEC's enforcement authority," said Stanley Keller, a partner at Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge.
