$2.1B BART extension moving to final design phase

Federal authorities have approved California's $2.1B Bay Area Rapid Transit extension from Fremont, through San Jose and into Santa Clara County. This allows the project to progress to the final design stage. The approval means that groundbreaking may start early in 2012. The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, which handles the administration of the project, said about 2,500 construction jobs and 7,000 permanent jobs will be created as a result of the project.
