Basel Committee agrees on a way to identify SIFIs

The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision has come up with a method for determining which financial institutions should be deemed systemically important. The designated banks will be required to hold additional capital reserves. The methodology will allow a "differentiated treatment" of financial institutions "without needing to specify a fixed list," said Stefan Walter, secretary general of the Basel Committee.
