Maritz, Wolff & Co. is poised to sell hotels as others buy

Maritz, Wolff & Co., founded by Oakland Athletics co-owner Lew Wolff and Philip "Flip" Maritz, started buying luxury hotels in the 1990s. Now, the closely held firm is in the position to sell as many others are starting to acquire upscale properties. "We don't have any of the pressure that public companies have," Wolff said. "We have time to find legitimate buyers at a price we wouldn't necessarily pay ourselves. That makes it a good deal."
