A4A warns that higher fuel costs pressure airline margins

Summer travelers may face an increase in fares this year. Airfares for 2012 are up by around 9%, according to Airlines for America. "You know the airlines in 2011, eked out a 0.3 percent profit margin," said John Heimlich, chief economist for the A4A. "It's hard to see that revenues are in great excess of the cost of operation."
