Helping students avoid trappings of homework:

Author and clinical psychologist Kenneth Goldberg in this blog post considers the "homework trap," in which some students are challenged to stay on track with out-of-school assignments. Many such students may have underlying learning issues or struggle with the pace of the work, Goldberg writes. To address the issue, he suggests time limits be placed on homework, penalties for missed assignments be minimized and that parents and teachers work together -- rather than at odds -- to improve the situation for homework-trapped students.
