Union: Some Chicago teachers would strike over proposed changes

Officials with the Chicago Teachers Union say educators at more than 150 schools are prepared to strike over planned changes, including longer school days, a revised calendar and a new evaluation system. The union has run informal polls to gauge teachers' willingness to take action. "Teachers and paraprofessionals there have voted overwhelmingly, overwhelmingly, to strike should contract negotiations fail and CPS and the mayor does not reverse the hostile climate against us," union President Karen Lewis said.
