Findings on earliest stages of rheumatoid arthritis may shed light on treatment

The earliest stage of rheumatoid arthritis differs from that of other inflammatory joint diseases, according to a new study, and the findings open up the possibility of treating the condition before it develops into long-term arthritis. The study found that when the earliest symptoms appear, a distinctive profile of proteins called cytokines emerges in synovial fluid surrounding the joints with rheumatoid arthritis.
