Principal's sudden dismissal raises eyebrows

Popular suburban New York high-school principal John F. Sullivan's alleged sins seem minor -- accepting a call from his wife during a staff meeting, missing a cabinet meeting and neglecting to finish a handful of teacher evaluations -- but they were enough for his superintendent and school board to dismiss him mid-year, order him off the property and change the locks behind him. Students walked out of class in support of Sullivan, whom the board had asked two years ago to become superintendent because of the stellar job he had done in turning around the district's struggling high school. He declined the offer.
