Column: Credit for construction project remains scarce

The fragile credit environment continues to restrain new construction projects, Jim Haughey writes. He notes that demand for new loans continues to decline. Haughey expects credit to become "very expensive" in 2010 and beyond. "This means relatively sluggish economic growth after the initial economic recovery," he writes. "Capital goods industries, including construction, will be operating in a credit constrained environment for several years."
