Outgoing FDA chief tells staff to "take back" agency

Acting FDA Commissioner Frank Torti challenged staff to "take back" the agency in a sentimental farewell e-mail. Underscoring the criticism and investigations over food, drug and device safety that have plagued the agency, he told staff to "speak up and take the FDA back. ... You do more good, day in and day out, than most others, inside or outside government. FDA has a mission, of course. But what you give the FDA is character and class."
