"American Idol" retains ad power, despite having ratings rival

Although "Dancing with the Stars" bested "American Idol" in the ratings last week, the ABC reality competition isn't posing a threat to Fox show's ad primacy. "Idol," bolstered by its reach with younger, female viewers, commands $642,000 for a 30-second spot, while "Dancing," whose audience is mainly older women, last fall got $209,000.
