HHS allocates $267M for regional HIT extension centers

HHS announced Tuesday that it will provide 28 nonprofit groups with $267.6 million in funding to establish regional extension centers, adding to the 32 grants it announced in February. The extension centers will offer "elbow-to-elbow type of assistance" to health care providers in implementing health IT systems, said Dr. David Blumenthal, the national coordinator for health IT.
