Number of academy schools in England grows

Academy schools now account for one out of every six secondary schools in England, according to government data that show an uptick in the number of schools shedding government control and funding for private resources and more autonomy. While the academy model still is more popular at the secondary-school level than in primaries, Education Secretary Michael Gove has said he believes most schools will become academies in the near future.
