Schools include science competitions as part of the curriculum:

Some schools are including science competitions -- usually reserved for clubs and after-school programs -- as part of the regular curriculum. Educators say the contests can inspire students to better their scientific skills and allow students of all ability levels to see how science is applied. Several schools in Alabama went on to adopt new programs in science, technology, engineering and math subjects after seeing the effects of students' participation in robotics competitions.
