Starbucks' expansion into sandwiches makes some drinks not kosher

Moves by Starbucks to expand the menu and include sandwiches at its full-service stores has cast into doubt its ability to serve consumers who keep kosher, according to an updated report by the Chicago Rabbinical Council. While plain-brewed coffees and certain espresso-based drinks remain approved, fancier concoctions made with glass or metal utensils are no longer considered kosher because the implements might be washed with utensils used to make nonkosher meat and cheese sandwiches, the report says.
