Cardiac units apply quality, efficiency lessons from manufacturing

Lean management principles devised by manufacturers are showing similar efficiency and quality improvements when applied to cardiac care, according to a study in JAMA Internal Medicine. The study found that the leanest units performed better on metrics associated with heart attack treatment, such as performing more percutaneous coronary interventions within 90 minutes.
