Experts: Roofs' snow-load capacity depends on several factors

Insurers need to consider factors such as location and roof design to determine whether a property is prone to a snow-related collapse, said Dan Mazzei of Wallace Engineering and Melvin Jeffers of Engle Martin & Associates. Other factors to consider when underwriting and assessing snow-collapse claims include the temperature of a roof as well as geometry and surrounding buildings, Mazzei and Jeffers said.
