Hamburg encourages steps to bring novel drugs to patients more quickly

FDA Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg says her agency wants to work more closely with drugmakers throughout the development of new treatments, an approach she says would ultimately bring new drugs to patients more quickly. "We see this model emerging where we don't just wait for an application to come to us," Hamburg said at the annual meeting of the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council. "We engage with you early and work with you throughout the development process."
