Photosynthetic scaffold technology wins university business contest

Startup firm SymbiO2 was given a top prize at the Triton Innovation Network Challenge at the University of California, San Diego for its photosynthetic scaffold technology, which could lessen medical waste. "The algae-based scaffold provides oxygen directly to the wound, thus promoting tissue healing," competition organizers said. The firm's proponents, Anil Sadarangani and Andres Volker from the Rady School of Management, were awarded $6,000.
