U.S. says H-1B visa requests may surpass last year's number

The U.S. said it has received a "high number" of H-1B visa requests and they might surpass last year's tally of 124,000, well beyond the 65,000 cap. Separately, the White House said it's preparing standards relating to H-1B spousal employment. "These proposed regulations include rules authorizing employment for spouses of certain high-skill workers on H-1B visas, as well as enhancing opportunities for outstanding professors and researchers," a White House announcement said.
