Ex-Princeton president wants elite colleges to admit more low-income students

William G. Bowen is urging elite colleges to extend affirmative action to low-income students to remake top colleges from "bastions of privilege" to "engines of opportunity." Bowen adds that applying the same admissions preference to low-income students as legacy students could raise low-income students' representation to 17% from 11% now.
