Study: 12 dangerous dietary supplements sold in U.S.

Consumer Reports says at least 12 dietary supplements being sold as natural may cause cancer, kidney or liver damage. The FDA has acted on only two of the supplements even though some already have been banned in Asia, Europe and Canada. Some say the 1994 Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act puts an unnecessary burden on the FDA to prove a supplement is dangerous before it can be taken off the market, and a recent report argues manufacturers should be required to report all known side effects of the supplements.
