"Today" benefits from Gifford's persona

TV veteran Kathie Lee Gifford, who on Monday started her shift as a co-anchor on the fourth hour of NBC's "Today," should breathe some much needed life into the program's roster of news you can use, according to TV critic Alessandra Stanley. "Her earthy, showbiz trouper personality stands out against the pleasant but bland co-hosts who drag out the tail end of 'Today' with endless tips about fashion, diet and marriage," Stanley writes.
