First phase of NextGen system goes live in Miami

Dignitaries descended on Miami International Airport on Tuesday to celebrate the first phase in a national rollout of the NextGen air traffic control system. MIA's satellite-based ADS-B navigation and information feeds are now active and undergoing tests for operational effectiveness. "This is a significant milestone and a remarkable achievement for NextGen and everyone involved in its evolution," said Marion Blakey, who helped start the initiative during her tenure as FAA chief.
