Legal experts: Groups should gear up for HIT incentives in stimulus plan

Bruce Fried and Lauren Mack, attorneys with a Chicago firm, recommend that provider groups should devise a plan to capitalize on incentive payments in the stimulus package for the "meaningful use" of electronic medical records and other IT systems even before all details are finalized. CIOs and other senior leaders should evaluate whether their organizations meet qualifications that have been defined. Groups should also educate non-IT staff and managers who will be involved in implementing technologies, the lawyers said.
