Merrill Lynch analyst reduces earnings estimate for Caterpillar

Andrew Obin, a Merrill Lynch analyst, lowered his 2009 earnings estimate for Caterpillar. Obin estimated that the company will lose 23 cents per share for the first quarter, a more pessimistic view than his previous estimate of an 11-cent loss. Most other analysts predict earnings of 10 cents per share for the equipment manufacturer in the first quarter of 2009.
