Draining methane from coal beds could save lives

Draining methane from coal beds could simultaneously lower greenhouse-gas emissions and lessen the risk to workers of explosions, such as the one that rocked a West Virginia mine this week and killed at least 25 miners. The U.N. Economic Commission for Europe has issued new guidelines on draining methane.
