Research program aims to advance security in health IT

As part of the $15 million grant recently announced by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, a team of researchers is set to develop technology designed to address security roadblocks in health IT use and gain the confidence of patients and providers. Called Strategic Healthcare Information Technology Advanced Research Projects on Security, or SHARPS, the program will center around three key health IT settings, which are electronic health records, telemedicine and health information exchange.
