Schools on Kansas military post work to serve students with autism

04/8/2010 | Fort Leavenworth Lamp (Kan.)

Schools on the Fort Leavenworth base in Kansas are working to provide services for students with autism, found to be in greater numbers at schools on the Army base than in surrounding schools. Some resources are provided through Army Community Service, which supports families as they seek a diagnosis and provides specialized community activities for families and children with autism. Academic instruction is provided through Leavenworth County's special-education cooperative, which has two autism consultants on staff.
