Expert: Xeriscaping can help gardens withstand drought

Xeriscaping can help gardens flourish and adapt to long periods of drought, according to Jeff Floyd, a horticulturist from the Texas AgriLife Extension Office. Xeriscaping does not mean removing all the grass, but instead combining it with native species of plants along with mulch and hardscaped paths. It can help save water better than artificial turf or concrete lawns, which only increase heat in the landscape, Floyd advises.
