Pa. fourth-graders boost reading skills with college students' help

Education majors at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania are serving as volunteer reading tutors for elementary-school students at Pfeiffer-Burleigh School. The future teachers benefit as much as their young pupils, said Danielle White, a fourth-grade learning support teacher at Pfeiffer-Burleigh. "Kids get one-on-one reading instruction ... and the Edinboro kids are getting some experience with education prior to their field placement and student teaching. And they're getting experience working in an urban district," White said.
