Fla. district expands universal, in-class breakfast program

This year, a Florida school district began serving free breakfast-in-the-classroom at an elementary school, and by the end of next month the program is expected to have expanded to seven more schools. Educators at the district's pilot school have reported improved behavior and decreased hunger. "Until we meet basic needs for our children, learning is not really going to happen. If they're hungry, they're going to be thinking about the hunger, not about learning," Kathryn LeRoy, superintendent of schools, said.
