Offering rewards may get employees to act in the short term, but it won't create the sort of long-lasting motivation you want, writes Eric Barker. To create real engagement, you'll need to develop a shared mission for your company and inspire positive emotions in your employees by focusing on the progress they have made. "Progress is powerful. Encourage people to reflect on how far they’ve come and the good work they’ve done," he advises.
