Diets work by cutting calories, not carbs

A study in today's Journal of the American Medical Association finds that diets, including low-carb plans such as the Atkins diet, work well because they ultimately reduce caloric intake, not because they restrict carbohydrates. Nutritionists find that while there are not short-term health risks associated with Atkins-type diets, the risks to long-term health remain debatable.
