Pennsylvania to coordinate drug buying to rein in costs

On Thursday, Pennsylvania launched an initiative to control the cost of prescription drugs the state purchases for various benefit programs, including Medicaid and state employees' health plans. The state plans to combine the purchasing policies and power of the various programs, negotiate prices with drug makers and pharmacy benefits managers and collect overdue rebates from pharmaceutical companies.
