Researchers discover new adverse effect of hormone therapy

U.S. scientists who reviewed data from the Women's Health Initiative found that patients who underwent estrogen-only hormone therapy were twice as likely to develop noncancerous breast lumps as those given a placebo. The researchers, who identified 232 cases of benign proliferative breast disease among 10,000 participants, noted that a form of the condition has been linked to the development of cancer.
