Retain experienced teachers to improve education

More than a decade after the first reports of a growing teacher shortage, the focus has remained on hiring new teachers instead of retaining those already in the profession, writes Celine Coggins of the Rennie Center for Education Research and Policy. The success of such measures have muted concerns about attrition, even when turnover costs the country about $7.3 billion annually.
