Extreme climate inspires innovation for Kazakhstan project

Kazakhstan's severe climate created unique challenges for the architectural firm Foster & Partners as it designed the Khan Shatyr entertainment center. To solve the problem of extreme cold and heat, inflated ETFE cushions will be clamped to a cable net enclosed by a giant roof. The cushions create an energy saving "bubble" and can accommodate a high thermal range to survive difficult climate conditions, experts say.
