SEC, DOJ demur on forcing Madoff bankruptcy

Federal regulators said pushing a Ponzi scheme operator into bankruptcy would be counterproductive in recovering damages for his victims. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and Justice Department told a federal judge that bankrupting Bernard Madoff would result in costly and ineffective litigation.
