Travel agent groups oppose antitrust immunity for Star Alliance

The American Society of Travel Agents and the Interactive Travel Services Association have expressed their concern over a tentative decision from the Department of Transportation to give antitrust immunity to the airline members of the Star Alliance. "[We] are alarmed that the Department would permit huge airlines to combine their bargaining power against both traditional and online travel agents, which have brought transparency, innovation, and lower fares directly to consumers," ASTA and ITSA said. Within 21 days, both groups plan to file objections to the Show Cause Order issued by the Transportation Department on Tuesday.
