X5 Retail Group, the biggest food retailer in Russia, reported a 20% increase in first-quarter sales as the company launched 27 new stores. Same-store sales rose 7% during the first three months of the year. A "powerful like-for-like performance at discounters" helped boost sales growth, said CEO Lev Khasis said. "We believe consumer spending will begin to show improvement toward the end of the year."
