Massachusetts school districts face challenges as the number of students with disabilities grows along with the cost of providing programs and services. For both educational and financial reasons, some districts are working to offer more services rather than using costly private providers. "We also prefer to educate in-district when possible so that students can remain close to home, minimize travel time, and go to school with neighbors and friends. It also allows us to monitor student progress and control the quality of education when we are supplying it in-district," said Medway Superintendent Judith Evans.
