Mentors are to leaders what coaches are to athletes

Business leaders, like athletes, need to be mentally tough, according to Christine Riordan of the University of Denver. "Part of leadership and mental toughness is having the resiliency to bounce back from mistakes and situations that you [as a leader] really haven't seen before," Riordan said. Working with a mentor and having a role model to look up to can help a leader to develop mental toughness, said Bill Cole of William B. Cole Consultants.
