Report examines low EHR adoption rates at long-term care facilities

Long-term and postacute care facilities are not eligible for meaningful use incentives for adopting EHR systems and have been slow to do so, yet are integral to coordination in the health care system, according to a report from the ONC. These facilities can better coordinate health care with other institutions by joining community health information exchanges, adopting a secure data exchange messaging system developed by the ONC and forming partnerships to share resources, the report said.
