Can wind power survive the rise of shale gas?

America's wind-power advocates are calling for the restoration of subsidies to help the industry compete with rock-bottom natural gas prices. The gas industry benefits from rules allowing many pipeline companies to avoid paying income taxes, wind-energy officials note. "Cheap gas has definitely made it harder to compete," says David Crane, CEO of NRG Energy.
