Facebook plans new look for right-column ads

The text-heavy ads that appear in the right-hand rail of Facebook feeds are getting a face-lift to attract more clicks. There will be fewer ads in the space over the coming months, and the ads will be double in size with large images. The move is designed to revive marketers' interest in the right-side ads, which have fallen in popularity over time. AdParlor reports that rail-specific ads accounted for 27.2% of Facebook-driven revenue in the third quarter of 2013. That number dropped to 8.1% in the first quarter of 2014.
