House bill would require VA to use accredited tissue banks

A House proposal to require the Department of Veterans Affairs to use a standardized system to track tissue- and bone-based biological implants has been updated to include a provision mandating that the VA obtain biologics only from accredited suppliers. "With this change, the VHA will be joining the ranks of leading medical centers of excellence which currently require that all tissue be sourced from AATB-accredited tissue banks," AATB CEO Frank Wilton told the House Veterans Affairs Oversight and Investigations subcommittee.
